Composites Research Activities in Bristol, and the Challenges of Predicting Failure
Wednesday Nov 13th, 2013 with lab tour at 19:00 and talk at 19:30
Joint event with the British Composites Society
A brief overview will be given of activities in the Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science (ACCIS), and the National Composites Centre in Bristol. This will be followed by a presentation drawing on research over many years on failure mechanisms in fibre-reinforced composites and some of the fundamental issues involved in measuring and predicting mechanical behaviour and failure.
|Bristol University - Advanced Composites Centre|
Michael Wisnom is Professor of Aerospace Structures and Director of the Advanced Composites Centre for Innovation and Science at the University of Bristol. He is a leading expert on the mechanics and failure of fibre reinforced composites, with over 300 published papers. He is Director of the Rolls-Royce Composites University Technology Centre and a member of the steering board of the UK National Composites Centre. He is Editor in Chief of Composites Part A, a Fellow of the American Society for Composites. Professor Wisnom was awarded a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award in 2005, was President of the International Committee on Composite Materials from 2009-2011, and is a former President of WEMMA.
The talk will be followed by a discussion and buffet.
Members and non-members are welcome.
